Cambridge PET
(B1 Preliminary)

Cambridge PET (B1 Preliminary) is an internationally recognized qualification that demonstrates a student’s ability to communicate independently in English at CEFR B1 level.

This course prepares learners to handle everyday academic and social situations with confidence. Students develop stronger reading comprehension, structured writing skills, listening accuracy, and fluent speaking through exam-style practice and real-world communication tasks.

PET marks an important transition from basic English to independent language use — preparing students for higher-level study, international exams, and English-speaking environments.

Language Objectives & Skills Developed

At B1 level, students work with more advanced grammar and communication skills, including:

  • Present perfect vs. past simple

  • Past continuous

  • First and second conditionals

  • Passive voice (introduction)

  • Reported speech (introduction)

  • Modal verbs for advice, obligation, and possibility

  • Relative clauses

  • Complex sentence linking (although, however, unless, while)

Vocabulary expands into broader and more abstract topics such as education, travel, technology, social issues, work, health, culture, and global themes.

Students learn to:

  • Understand longer, more detailed reading texts

  • Write structured emails, stories, and opinion essays

  • Follow extended conversations and interviews

  • Express opinions clearly and support ideas with reasons

  • Participate in discussions with greater fluency
